When a company start to recruit employees, the organisation will have to establish a positive hiring policy, which isn't against with national employment law.
One of the important factor when hiring people is to check their background to see if they were a criminal or not, companies will often use a program called CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) to check their background profiles.
Probationary period:
This is mainly for new employees or internally promoting staff. This lets the organisation to establish trust with the new employee and allow them responsibility one stage at a time. It would be risky to give them all access to all systems straight away, because they can't be trusted or lack of experience.
